For most individuals who are looking to purchase residential, owner occupied property, we have found that credit unions often offer the best service and most competitive rates. We work closely with a number of credit unions and can recommend them without qualification. If you are looking to purchase multi-family or commercial property, there are a number of reputable lenders that we can recommend.

Most credit unions have membership requirements but it is more than likely that you will be eligible for membership in at least one of the following institutions.

Community Resource is a community chartered credit union. You can join if you live, work, worship or attend school in Albany County or if you have a relative that does. You can also join if you are related to a member of Community Resource, or you live in the same household as a member.

The Price Chopper Employees Federal Credit Union encourages you to share the benefits of the credit union with your family. Immediate family members may enjoy the same membership services the credit union provides to you. Membership eligibility is as follows: Membership eligibility is extended to individuals who are members of “an immediate family or household” of a credit union member. “Immediate family” is defined as spouse, child, sibling, parent, grandparent or grandchild. For purposes of this definition, immediate family member includes stepparents, stepchildren, stepsiblings, and adoptive relationships. “Household” is defined as persons living in the same residence maintaining a single economic unit.

In order to be eligible for membership, you must be employed by one of the school districts, colleges, educational institutions and companies listed among our Select Employer Groups. Albany Firemen's Credit Union does not currently offer first mortgage loans to its members but it does offer home equity loans and lines of credit. You may want to use the equity in your home to pay for repairs or improvements before you put it on the market. The credit union's staff can also refer you to a lender that will provide you with the service and respect you have come to expect from the Credit Union.
